I need to move my current Exchange 2003 server installation to a new server. Here are my concerns and questions: If I don't keep the same Server name, will the client profiles find the new server or will I have to go around to each computer and create a new e-mail profile? My current Exchange Server is setup as a Domain Controller and as a Global Catalog server. I have 2 other DCs in my domain and I have successfully transferred all Operational Roles to the other DCs. One of the other DCs is also serving as a Global Catalog server. Are there any issues here I need to know about? And last but not least, is what would be the best method in transferring to the new server causing the least amount of downtime. I have the new server and was going to set it up with Exchange Server 2003 and as a member server. I have control over my DNS servers and IP addresses. So I can create my records and assign IPs as needed. I have read several articles, but just wanted to get some more specific input. Thanks, Tommy Wallace
Hi, Use the move server method as described here: http://www.swinc.com/resources/exchange/faq_db.asp?status=questions&faqID=1001&faqname=Exchange%202000§ionID=1024§ionName=Exchange%202000%20Move%20Server%20Method Outlook clients will automatically redirect to the new server if you keep the old one running for a couple of weeks.
