Hello, I need to move an existing Exchange 2003 server running on windows 2000 to a new server hardware running windows 2003. Has anybody have any article on this. So, far I read article saying both the OS should be same when moving exchange installation to retain name servername on new server hardware. thanks for your suggestions. thanks
If it's new hardware just bring up the new server with 2003/2003 and move the mailboxes over. Hi, If it is on new hardware follow this : http://www.swinc.com/resources/exchange/faq_db.asp?status=questions&faqID=1001&faqname=Exchange%202000§ionID=1024§ionName=Exchange%202000%20Move%20Server%20Method If it is on the same hardware just upgrade the OS (after performing a full backup) Leif "Gary Norwood" wrote in message news:B1AEC93C-EB46-495C-A2C3-6D470F607C42@microsoft.com... > Im Currently in EXACTLY the same boat.... any help would be great!!!! im > also sat at my desk and raring to go if anyone fancies helping out this > PM! > > Gaz. > > "mslogs" wrote: > >> Anybody come across this scenario ? >> Moving Exchange 2003 on windows 2000 to exchange 2003 on windows 2003 ? >> thanks >> >> >> >> "mslogs" wrote: >> >> > If I move mailboxes will outlook client automatically switch over to >> > the new >> > server ? Thankyou for you response, iv already seen the link you forwarded, however, point 3 says... "Bring the box up to the same Windows 2000 service pack and hotfix level as the existing Exchange 2000 server" The original server is a windows 2000 server. The new machine i would like to move to is windows 2003. Scince the instructions you kindly forwarded imply that both servers are of the same OS, im a little reluctant to act. any other ideas? Thanks in advance. Stressed-out-Gaz.
