Exchange 2003 move to new hardware
Hello,

I need to move an existing Exchange 2003 server running on windows 2000 to a
new server hardware running windows 2003. Has anybody have any article on
this. So, far I read article saying both the OS should be same when moving
exchange installation to retain name servername on new server hardware.
thanks for your suggestions.

thanks

Re: Exchange 2003 move to new hardware
If it's new hardware just bring up the new server with 2003/2003 and move
the mailboxes over.

Re: Exchange 2003 move to new hardware
If I move mailboxes will outlook client automatically switch over to the new
server ? I would like to avoid workstation visit to update out look profile.
Pls forward any article on this.
thanks for your reply.

Re: Exchange 2003 move to new hardware
Hi,

If it is on new hardware follow this :
http://www.swinc.com/resources/exchange/faq_db.asp?status=questions&faqID=1001&faqname=Exchange%202000§ionID=1024§ionName=Exchange%202000%20Move%20Server%20Method
If it is on the same hardware just upgrade the OS (after performing a full
backup)

Re: Exchange 2003 move to new hardware
Thankyou for you response,

iv already seen the link you forwarded, however, point 3 says...

"Bring the box up to the same Windows 2000 service pack and hotfix level as
the existing Exchange 2000 server"

The original server is a windows 2000 server. The new machine i would like
to move to is windows 2003.

Scince the instructions you kindly forwarded imply that both servers are of
the same OS, im a little reluctant to act. any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Exchange 2003 move to new hardware
Hi,

As you are going to move the mailboxes/public folders just ignore this
point. I have done this successfully numerous times and it works.
