High Availability
I am not sure this is the place to post this question, so if I’m incorrect
just let me know and I’ll post it there.

My question is I am trying to design a high availability Exchange
environment. We have a very strict budget and I am trying to get the best
solution design.

I currently have 1-Exchange Server 2003, which is working very well. What I
want to accomplish initially is I want to be able to reboot the primary
exchange server or bring it down for maintenance and have a backup Exchange
server accept mail while the primary is offline.

Can I get this availability by just adding a new exchange server into my
environment?

If you know of an inexpensive clustering solution feels free to pass on any
information.

Thanks in advance all.

You don't even need Exchange for this - any SMTP server can do it. In fact,
you don't even need this to be on your network...one inexpensive option is
MailHop BackupMX from www.dyndns.org - it's something like $20/yr.

Also see www.messageone.com for fancier stuff.

Exchange clustering is not inexpensive, is complicated, can be fraught with
numerous problems, and since it involves shared disk, probably isn't the
most relevant thing here anyway.

Re relevant groups: this one's fine, but note that MS is getting away from
version-specific newsgroups for server products, you'll get more 'eyes' on
your posts if you stick to the microsoft.public.exchange.* groups - just
make sure to mention your version & SP level of Exchangewhenever you post in
there.
