sbs2000 migration to exch2003
have sbs2000 set up with exchange2000 on a single server that is old and
running out of space. I would like to add a new Server, install windows 2003
and exchange 2003 use the move method to move the mailboxes to the new
server, then remove exchange 2000 from the sbs 2000 server.

After that is complete I would like to upgrade the sbs2000 server to
windows 2003 leaving it to just handle AD, DHCP & DNS

I see plenty of articles on migrating exchange 2000 to 2003 but no mention
if sbs is going to add any complications to the process. Also if the new
windows 2003 server which is going to get exchange is just a domain member
does the AD article about running adprep and forest prep on the sbs 2000
apply.

Thanks
Rich

Re: sbs2000 migration to exch2003
You can purchase the SBS 2003 Transition Pack for migrating to Standard
Domain which in my experience has been the most cost effective and less time
consuming for licensing and migration but requires you to upgrade to SBS
2003 prior to Transitioning. You could also create brand new Windows Domain
and exmerge your users mailbox data to pst files them reimport on the new
2003 domain. Other option is to look at www.sbsmigration.com for step by
step to migrating to Windows domain. In any case, you have options you just
need to figure out which one best fits your environment.
