IM with E2k in an E2k3 enviroment
I have a full license for Exchange 2000 as well as 2003. We are running in AD
native mode with a single server install of Exchange 2003. I have created
another server on which I have installed Exchange 2000 SP3. I have
successfully integrated this into my Exchange site. I have created the IM
Virtual Server. I am ready to start testing this with users.

Here is where I am unsure. Obviously the whole thing is held together via
AD. Since IM isn't supported in EX 2003 the only place where I see the
Exchange task to enable IM on a particular user is from ADUC that is on the
Exchange 2000 server.

Can I just assign that role to a user in ADUC even though the ability to do
this only exists on that one server. I was concerned about negatively
impating the schema.

If I pull this server at some time in the future do I have to remove that
role from each user first?

Do I need the SRV record? I have only one server involved in the whole IM
thing.

Thanx...Jon
