Migrate Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000
My first Exchange 5.5 is setup on a Windows NT 4.0 SP4 server. Two years
ago, I installed Exchange 5.5 on a Windows 2000 server (which is a member
server platform) and under the existing Home Site. The NT 4 PDC and the W2K
DC are trusted both ways. I then moved the mailboxes off the existing home
server to the new home server. Now I would like to move the entire Exchange
server to Exchange 2000.

Instead of a co-existence migration of Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000, I
would rather install Exchange 2000 on another Server (which I read has to be
a Active Directory server). Can I do this and will I be able to move the
Directory and Mailboxes form the Exch 5.5 to the Exch 2000, if I install Exch
2000 on a separate server? Also, I read that one of the server has to be in
native mode? However, we need to maintian mix mode because we are running a
Windows NT 4. PDC. Would you help me with the step by step instructions?

I would greatly appreciate your technical assistance!

Re: Migrate Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000
Hi,

This might help: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=316886

It is not recommended to install exchange 200x on a domain controller. Much
better to install on a domain member server.
