Newbie: Exchange Storage Group
Hi,

I am reading through the document by Microsoft, "Planning an Exchange Server
2003 Messaging System." In the article, it mentioned something about storage
group. May I knwo what does MS means?

Below is an extract,

An example disk configuration is as follows:

C:\ System and boot (mirror set)

         D:\ Page file

E:\ Transaction log files for storage group 1 (mirror set)

F:\ Transaction log files for storage group 2 (mirror set)

G:\ Database files for both storage groups (multiple drives
configured as hardware stripe set with parity

Is it a compulsory to have 2 storage groups in Exchange? In the above
example, where are the mailbox stored?

Thanks and I apologise if my question sounds stupid.

Re: Newbie: Exchange Storage Group
Hi,

You can only have multiple storage groups on an exchange enterprise edition
server (where you can have 4 storage groups each with 5 databases). In an
standard edition exchange server there can be only one storage group
consisting of 2 databases - one for public folders and one for mailboxes. A
storage group is simply a collection of exchange databases sharing one set
of transaction logs.
