Re: Moving mail boxes exchange 2003/2000
Some common reasons for 4006 Warning event include the following:
a.. The connection was dropped by the remote host.
b.. The remote SMTP service rejected AUTH negotiation.
c.. The server trying to deliver the message cannot access the message
delivery information in the message.
d.. An SMTP protocol error occurred.
e.. The server that is trying to deliver the message cannot connect to the
remote server.
f.. If a smart host has been specified in the properties of the SMTP
virtual server, this event can be logged if the smart host is unreachable
for any reason.
Note This event can also be logged when the Mail Host Filtering feature of
Sybari Antigen Antivirus Software is enabled. Disabling that feature may
resolve this issue

Re: Moving mail boxes exchange 2003/2000
Hi Sasa,
I don't understand since it is a internal mail why is it looking for smtp.
Should be x.400 isn't it? How can I track where this problem occur? I
compared all the settings with exchange 2000 and match perfectly ok,
including security to the mail boxes plus storage groups. In my routing
groups members the exchange 2003 is master and the ex2000 is member is that
OK?
pls. advice

Re: Moving mail boxes exchange 2003/2000
Nop, messages between Exchange servers are transfered thru SMTP.
Exchange Master server just takes care about link state table so it should
not cause any problems.
Are you maybe using smart host?

Re: Moving mail boxes exchange 2003/2000
Hi Sasa,
Yes I do have a smart host name entered, In the exchange 2000 there is an
option to select that attempt to send direct delivery, but in 2003 there is
no options. And also I haven't set a SMTP connecter since the KB says it not
required. What is your suggestion.
Thanks

Re: Moving mail boxes exchange 2003/2000
Hi Sasa,
After your latest mail, I checked the help for the smart host and as per
that I removed the smart host and only left the External DNS IP, and now that
works fine. Thank for all your help and advice. I really appreciate that.
Finally before ending this discussion, I need some advice which may help me
to complete this migration. Next step I am going to move mail boxes within
another few days by about 10 mailboxes per day( my total mail box storage
size is about 13GB) after that I will wait for few days to see any problem
with send/receive. If every thing works I will stop the IIS
admin(FTP,NNTP,SMTP and www) and see still the exchange 2000 is working well.
If everything works well the I will uninstall the Exchange server from ex2000
and bring down the exc2000. That is my plan. Please add any advice If any one
thing I should consider when this process happen.
Again thanks you all guys for your help.
