Exchange Server 5.5 to Exch2003 questions about Directory Name
We're doing the research to upgrade our Exchange 5.5 to 2003.

I just need a bit of clarification. In the following article by MS:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822588/, it was stated that

Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003 do not support directory names
that contain the following characters:
.. Question mark
.. Parentheses
.. Asterisk

Our directory name has a "+" in its name. Now, this wasn't listed in the
beginning of the article (link I provided) however, when you read on in the
"More Information" portion, it states:

In Exchange 5.5, all objects have both an internal directory name and an
external display name. The directory name is used to create the
distinguished name of the object. A sample distinguished name is
/o=Contoso/ou=Redmond. The display name is the name that you see when you
run the Microsoft Exchange Administrator tool. You cannot change the
internal directory name of an existing object, but you can change the
display name of that object. Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 limit the
common name value of objects that are stored in the Active Directory
directory service.

An Exchange 2000 organization name or an Exchange 2003 organization name
cannot contain the following characters:

and the "+" is listed. Does this mean I won't be able to keep my site name
(sample directoryname+co)? What is the difference between the "Directory
Name" referenced in the first portion of the article to the "Organization
name" listed in the "More Information" portion of the article? Are they
interchangeable?

Re: Exchange Server 5.5 to Exch2003 questions about Directory Name
Hi,

Before installing the first Exchange 2003 server in the 5.5 site you can
safely change the display name of the Organization. This changed display
name will be the future Exchange organization name in 2003.
