How can I install Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 member server in an Exchange 2003 domain environment? Do I have to create an active directory on the 2000 server in order for it to connect to the 2003 domain? I ahve not found any literature to support htis path. except the fact that it can ne done.
Hi, Do you mean Exchange 2003 domain or windows 2003 domain?? If you do mean Windows 2003 domain, you just install a Windows 2000 member server in the domain and install Exchange 2000 on this server - no need for the server to be running the domain controller role. The installation procedure differs somewhat depending on if this is the first exchange server in the organization or if it is going to integrate with other exchange servers? Whus not install Exchange 2003 - much better OWA, mobile user access and recovery possibilities - and exchange 2000 will go out of business long before exchange 2003, Leif "Andy1974" skrev i en meddelelse news:481F1033-55CA-4483-8198-8401E0D155E9@microsoft.com... > How can I install Exchange 2000 on a Windows 2000 member server in an > Exchange 2003 domain environment? I mean WINDOWS 2003 domain. How does the active directory on the Windows 2003 server authenticate with this Windows 2000 member server? Do I join the Windows 2000 server to the domain first and then install Exchange. Don't I have to add the schema to the 2003 active directory on the 2003 server for exchange also? We need to use Exchange 2000 because that is what we can afford right now. Hi, Install the windows 2000 server as a member server of the domain. The active directory does not authenticate with a member server, but the member server will authenticate with the active directory provided that it can find it thru DNS. You must join the server to the domain before installing exchange as this is a prequisite (exchange can only be installed on sevrers that are a part of a Windows 200x domain.) The exchange setup program should run the /forestprep and /domainprep as part of the normal setup if these commands are not run before setup has been started. I haven't tried to run the Exchange 2000 setup /forestprep on a windows 2003 domain controller and this command might not wotk here as it is not supported to install exchange 2000 on a windows server 2003. I would just try to run the commands from the windows 2000 server. Leif "Andy1974" skrev i en meddelelse news:EE3DE57A-8DB5-4A72-9B5F-8E311AE6B506@microsoft.com... > I mean WINDOWS 2003 domain. When I try and run setup, I get the same 2 errors every time: 'Setup is unable to access the Windows 2000 Active Directory' and 'Failed to connect to the Schema Master server for this AD forest'. Is there something else I'm missing? I'm running SBS 2003 I'm trying to install Exchange on a Windows 2000 SP4 (plus rollup) Member Server. Make sure your DNS settings on member server are using 2003 domain controller as it's DNS. Make sure you have name resolution working. Man, the '6' key was sticking! I got the DNS sorted and all is well. Thanks so much!
