Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 standard upgrade process question.
I working on a Windows NT 4.0 Exchange 5.5 upgrade in a medium to small
network. I have upgraded the Domain to Active Directory interim mode. My
question is, the Exchange 5.5 server is still acting as a NT 4.0 BDC. Will
the standard Exchange 5.5 upgrade process work? Do i need to remove all of my
nt BDC's before i start the Exchange 5.5 - Exchange 2003 standard upgrade? Do
i need to have my A.D in Native mode before i start the Exchange upgrade.

Re: Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 standard upgrade process question.
Hi,

You don't need to have the AD in native mode, but it is recommended.

Reason for this:
When migrating distribution lists these are converted to universal security
groups if they have been used as security principals (used to add
permissions on public folders or user folders in exchange 5.5) and therefore
all permissions on folders can be migrated directly.

If the domain is in mixed mode the distribution lists are converted to
universal distribution groups which can't be used for adding permissions and
you will therefore loose all added permissions to the above mentioned
folders.
