can view contents of badmail folder
So, I've been bad.

I have not monitored my badmail folder. I am running Ex2k3 Ent. & W2k3 Ent.
When drilling down to the Badmail folder the Windows Explorer stops
responding so I know that it must be big because I'm embarrased to say that I
have never deleted anything out of it.
I did run Ex2k Ent for about a year before upgrading to Ex2k3.

I have read that Ex2k3 SP1 (which i have had for some time) disables the
badmail folder. This may be one bright spot for me however I still want to
remove the contents of Badmail because it is big. I know that MS recommends
deleting a certain way which I have the download from Technet for this.
However, I'll be out of the office for the next week and plan of taking care
of this weekend after I return.
Does anyone know how much of an issue it is that I cannot browse the folder
itself?
My concern is that if I can't browse it then the system may not be able to
rename it or do anything to it.
Any input appreciated.

RE: can view contents of badmail folder
Hi Irene,

My understanding of the issue is: You cannot use Windows Explorer to view the
Badmail folder. If I have misunderstood anything, please let me know.

This problem can be caused by several factors, perhaps it will be fixed itself after
rebooting server, or it indicates some serious system problem.

So firstly, I suggest temporarily disable the AV firewall, and then try to open the
folder again. If this does not work, can you enter this folder in Windows console
mode and "dir" its contents? We can also empty the folder in console windows.

Here is more info about the Badmail folder in Exchange 2003 SP1.

Hope the info helps.
