Help - problems retreiving mail in Cached mode.
Hi:

I've got a problem using Outlook 2003 connecting to an Exchange 2000 server
in cached mode. Occasionally I notice that there's an error retrieving mail
from Exchange (the exchange mail won't download). The error is not
obvious - I notice it in the send/receive mail dialog - the exchange check
comes up with a small icon with a exclamation mark but no anouncement about
what the error is. When I switch back to non cached mode - everything works
normally. I figure that I've either got a corrupted local cache, or the
server doesn't like something about cached mode when it's downloading
particular emails. This problem just started happening in the last week -
I've never seen it before.

Thanks for any advice.

Take a look at the contents of the Sync Issues folder to see what you can
find.

Re: Help - problems retreiving mail in Cached mode.
Hi Lawrence:

Nothing in the Sync Issues folder.

I've read that there could be some problems using NAV 10 and Outlook 2003 in
Cached mode. I think I've narrowed down the problem to emails that clearly
have a virus attached - when downloading in cached mode - Exchange chokes.
If I turn off cached mode - the culprit emails are downloaded :(.

The only thing for us is that we're not running NAV 10 but perhaps the
behaviour is similar on older versions of NAV.

Not sure; I don't use NAV. Why are virus attachments even reaching the
mailboxes, if you have Exchange-aware antivirus software running?

Re: Help - problems retreiving mail in Cached mode.
Hi Lawrence:

Yes, I have AV running, but this new strain is very strange - there is no
message body; it's as if it were a non-mail item in a mail folder. Nothing
executable gets downloaded as the culprit is an attachment which is caught
by the server, but the non-message message which will download in non-cache
mode, appears to choke Exchange in cache mode.

OT, perhaps, but doesn't your AV software provide you the option to delete
messages outright when they contain virus-laden attachments?
