Massive Increase in SPAM?
Has anyone else out there had a significant increase in SPAM in the past
week?

We normally get in around 90K messages per day. Yesterday we got 133K
messages coming into the company.

Our systems filter SPAM pretty well but we have been getting massive amounts
this week.

Thanks,
Fred

Re: Massive Increase in SPAM?
Nope. The SPAMs that we are getting are simply

mortgage, weight loss, software, insurance.

Thanks,
Fred

Re: Massive Increase in SPAM?
Our executives are going nuts here. You would think that they had never
seen a SPAM message before. Yesterday we got 157K messages where our norm
is 90K. I bet that realisitcally we only have 7K valid emails coming in the
company. Someone has got to come up with a way to stop this madness.

Thanks,
Fred

I know I'm jumping in late -- the original post is gone from my reader.
What are you currently using for anti-spam?

What are you using to block spam and viruses?

Re: Massive Increase in SPAM?
NetIQ's MailMarshal. It has been a good product for us. We ocassionally
have flare ups with spam but nothing like the extent that we are seeing now.
The sheer number of emails that we are RECEIVING at our gateway has almost
doubled our normal daily amount. I suppose that our SPAM block rate is good
considering the massive amount of email that it processes.

I was just wondering if our domains were being targeted or if this is simply
a Christmas rush for the SPAMMERS and we happen to be in their sights at the
present time.

Thanks,
Fred

Re: Massive Increase in SPAM?
Does that product do greylisting? I'm seeing an increase in regular spam
as well as wave-after-wave of virii, but the greylisting stops a great
deal of the former and almost all of the latter.

Re: Massive Increase in SPAM?
Looks like our incoming email volume is back to normal today. SPAMMERS must
have moved on to someone else's domain.

Thanks,
Fred

Or the block lists have picked up the new hosts and your block list RBL
is now working.

Re: Massive Increase in SPAM?
Tis the season.
We also see increases in volume certain times of the year plus there is a
new virus generating traffic.
