Exchange server offline/message queing
I have four exchange servers at different locations in the same organization.
One of the mail servers Mail2 is being moved and will be taken offline.
Email comes in through Symantec SMTP for gateways, forwaded toMail1 and then
is rerouted to Mail2.

While Mail2 is offline how long will mail1 que the messages for?

Will NDR's be genereated to the sender and if so can I edit the NDR?

Re: Exchange server offline/message queing
By default a delay notification will be sent after 12 hours and a NDR after
2 days. You can't edit the NDR but you can change the expiration timeout. Go
to the properties of the Default SMTP Virtual server, then go to the
Delivery tab and you'll see the settings there.
