It seems that this external agency has some "extra" rules to confirm that emails are coming from where they say they are coming from...and disallowing anything that doesn't match their external name. I am sure this isn't the only client we have doing this. It really isn't a good idea to publish "internal" names on the Internet.... So, someone here made a suggestion that another place to make this change would be on the exchange server(s) to have them show the external name of "smtpout.company.com" when the connection to send emails is made. Is this possible?
If I understand the question right, yes. Open Exchange System Manager and go to the SMTP folder under the server object -> protocols folder. If you bring up the properties on the virtual server, go to the last tab and then select the advanced button, you should be able to set the host name.
