Excessive growth of store, help!!
Hello.
I have an Exchange 2000 SP3 (with post SP3 rollup) server. I monitor the
database files weekly; they grow a little bit every week. Except for this
past week, when they jumped almost 14% in size. Has anyone seen this happen
before? The number of mailboxes has not jumped, it's weekly increas looks
normal. I exported the list of mailboxes and sorted by size; there are no
excessively large mailboxes and all mailboxes are within the range that they
were in a week ago. The only thing that changed was that I installed
Symantec Mail Security for MS Exchange. But I installed this on our three
other servers (same config) and they are just fine, with no excessive growth
in the size of the database files.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi,

Did you also get a lot more transaction logs than usual?

Re: Excessive growth of store, help!!
That thought crossed my mind. I looked and we have the regular number of
transaction logs. We do full backups daily so the logs get purged daily.
The 8GB increase in size is actually just the .edb + .stm file for the
mailbox store on the one server. Any other things that I can check for? I
even tried to look into the SIS ratio, but since I don't know what it was
before it is pretty pointless. Thanks.

Re: Excessive growth of store, help!!
Hi,

Do the databases still grow more than usual or was it just something that
happened over a couple of days?

If the growth stopped it will be difficult to find the cause. If it is still
there if would try the link I supplied in my first post and see if it gives
a hint.
