URGENT
DEAR MY READERS,

WE ARE MEDUIM COMPANY, USERS ABOUT 500-1000 USERS .

WE ARE ONLY HAVE ONE SMTP DOMAIN WHICH IS ( MAYA-EGY.COM ).

NOW, WE ARE USING POP3 ACCOUNTS TO CHECK OUR E-MAILS FROM OUT SIDE &
INTERNALLY AS WELL.

NOW, WE ARE GOING TO DEPLOY OR WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF CHOOSING BETWEEN
PURCHASING EXCHANGE SERVER & INSTALL WINDOWS SERVER 2003 WITH ITS SERVICES
POP3 SERVICES.

HERE IN MY DEPARTEMENT, WE HAVE AN IT CONSULTANT, SAYING TO US, WE SHOULD GO
WITH POP3 SERVER INSTALLED LOCALLY AND WE WILL LET THE USERS CONNECT TO THIS
SERVER BY USING POP3 AS BEFORE.

ANOTHER ONE SAYING WE HAVE TO DEPLOY EXCHANGE SERVER 2003.

CAN I KNOW HOW CAN I MAKE A STUDY TO DETERMINE WHICH MESSAGING SOULTION IS
BETTER FOR US, OR CAN YOU GUIDE ME TO THE FACTOR WHCIH IS I CAN FOLLOW TO
DETERMINE WHICH ONE IS BETTER FOR ME .

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Stop, enough with the choosing between the two. There is no point in
deploying Windows 2003 POP3 services to support 1000 users.

He's a moron, sack him.

Listen to him but ask him why.

Well, Exchange server might be better for you but frankly, my head
hurts with all these capital letters. Why the caps? All your other
posts, and there have been a fair few I can remember, have been in
lower case. Try to remember that.

Now, I might call the 1st consultant a moron but really, for all we
know he may have a point. You might have absolutley no need of an
Exchange server for your mail and calendaring. You might just need
mail services and your Windows box might very well have been ok.

I do not propose to go designing your network because, frankly, this
is a support forum rather than a free consultancy (you can bring me to
Egypt at 1000 per day plus expenses if you want) in Exchange design.
I will, however, suggest that you put the two consultants in the same
room with a business analyst and yourself.

Speaking for myself, if you have a calendaring requirement and a
business requirement to use rich email then you'll be leaning towards
Exchange very quickly, but you need to know why the 1st consultant
said to stay with POP3 and the 2nd said to go with Exchange.

I sometimes wonder why people place MS PSS calls and get expensive IT
consultants in, only to come here and ask the same question again. Now
I know.
