Prev1 files and eseutil
Hello

Our company has a 9Gb Priv1.stm file and a 4.5Gb Prev1.edb file. A user
tried to email a 1Gb file which i have now removed from the sent items
in their mailbox and the inbox of the other users mailbox. Will this
email have caused the Prev1 files to be larger?

If so would using the eseutil command reduce these file sizes to a more
reasonable level? Since the email was sent the backup has required an
additional tape so this is why i am thinking the email is still
affecting the system.

Finally, if using eseutil will help, how do i use it?! It says it is an
offline defrag so do i need to make sure all the users are off the
network before i do it? I have also read that it takes a long time. Are
we talking hours, half a day, a full day?

Thanks for your help

Re: Prev1 files and eseutil
Hi,

This mail could have caused the database to increase by 1Gb. Normally there
should be no need to defrag the database just to recover 1 Gb, but if you
must here is the procedure:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;192185

Before you start look for event 1221 in the application log. This event will
tell you how much space can be regained by running eseutil.
