Hi there, I am gonna get straight to it, the server that was hosting the msexchange went down and now i have a new server with exchange. All of the old data has not been restored yet and that is what i am trying to do. I have the MDBDATA and MTADATA folders with 8gigs of logs and our priv1.edb files etc. I have never used the exchange recovery storage group before. I mounted one and it brings up the database that is on the new server. How can I mount my old database files so that i can transfer the data to the new mailboxes? Thanks.
I am using exchange 2003 sp2. That is what the old database was from as well. http://hellomate.typepad.com/exchange/2003/12/the_recovery_st.html Basically, you mount the priv1.edb into the RSG. Once it is settled, exmerge out anything you want and exmerge to the live store. If you have cretaed new mailboxes on the new server then the users will probably have new mailbox GUIDs. This means that Exmerge will not be able to get the data out of the RSG as the original mailbox GUIDs no longer exist. This makes life a little more tricky. You can bring the old DB up in a lab or virtual environment in order to get the data out. You can also try and bring it up in a normal SG on the server but this means creating a whole bunch of temp accounts in order to reconnect to the mailboxes. /Simon "Josh" wrote in message news:C628A9CF-BFEB-419A-BBAA-25571DDC6AB3@microsoft.com... >I am using exchange 2003 sp2.
