Size of database.
The size of the priv1.edb is over 5GB, but the total amount of email is only
3GB. Is the a fragmentation problem and do i just need to run the eseutil /d
to fix this? Actually, the size of my M: dirve is 8.6 GB with only 3GB of
mail, so does anyone know how to get this size back down?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Size of database.
The M drive is not real. Ignore it. Step AWAY from the M drive.

5GB of priv1.edb and 3GB of email means 2GB of deleted items and white
space. Check the 1221 events for white space. Do you honestly need the disk
space?

Re: Size of database.
Actually it is the D drive and yes I need the disk space as I only have a
16GB limit on the Standare version of Exchange 2000, which I did not know
when I purchased this. I either have to keep the size low or buy the upgrade
$3,000.... I prefer not to spend that amount.

So is there a way to get the space freed up?

Re: Size of database.
Hi Dan,

dismount the store and run "eseutil /d database_name.edb". This will cut off
the empty space from edb. Mount the store after defrag.

Re: Size of database.
5GB is well under the 16GB limit. The 3GB will fill into the 5GB without the
2GB net being wasted. This is by design.

A copy of Exchange 2003 Standard retails below that figures and as of SP2
gives you 75GB for the store.
