Re: Public folders have disappeared from Public folders store ESM tree
Hi Cytrax,
The best, fastest, and easiest thing you can do is to do a Point in Time
Restore of the Public folder store on the Exchange 2000 server from a backup
that was made before you removed the replicas from the Exchange 2000 server.
To do this and get the public folders to replicate correctly you will need
to do the following steps.
1) Stop the SMTP virtual server on the E2k server
2) Restore the Public folder store from back up (depending on your software
this may require you to dismount your mailbox stores)
3) Once the restored log files are replayed mount the public folder store
4) Go into the ESM and modify the replicas so that they are now listed as
being on the E2k and E2k3 servers
5) Modify the message priority on the Public folder a number of times (set
to High apply, ok, propagate, set to low apply, ok, propagate) this is done
to bump up the version information on the PF store. Recommend doing it
around 10 times.
6) Start the SMTP virtual server
This should cause replicas of the public folders to be added to the E2k3
server.
Hope this Helps,

Re: Public folders have disappeared from Public folders store ESM
Hi Matthew,
Thanks for your reply.
The main problem I'm having is that Public folders is that the objects
nolonger exist in the Public folder view even though pub1.edb and pub1.stm
are intact. It's almost as though the link has been broken in AD. I guess the
first thing to do is for to try and find a way to enable these objects again.
Please help!

Re: Public folders have disappeared from Public folders store ESM
Hi Cytrax,
When looking at public folders in the ESM you are exclusivly looking at the
public folder store. This means that if there is something missing from
this view then as far as Exchange is concerned that folder no longer exists.
There is no way to "reconnect" that folder as all of the information about
it (other that was is needed to route email to the folder) exists exclusivly
within the information store database.
To get this information back you are going to have to restore the database
from a time prior to the changes that were made that resulted in the loss of
data.
Hope This Helps,
