Having looked at the system requirements for Exchange 2000 @ http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2000/sysreqs.mspx, I'm wondering is it possible to install Exchange 2000 on a computer running Windows 2000 standard server with 2GB of RAM? It states on the system requirements web page that Exchange 2000 Server should be installed on a computer running Windows 2000 Advanced server with over 1 gigabyte (GB) of physical memory. Does this imply that Exchange 2000 can't run on a Windows 2000 server standard computer with more than 1GB of memory or does it mean that it could still run but the user may encounter a reduction in performance of the exchange server? As I intend to run Exchange 2000 on a computer running only the standard version of Windows 2000 Server with 2GB of memory, I'm concerned that I might experience problems due to having more than 1GB of RAM. I'm wondering has anybody out there managed to successfully install Exchange 2000 on a computer running only the standard version of Windows 2000 server with more than 1GB of RAM and without experiencing any significant degradation in performance. I would welcome any assistance. Thanks Martin
Hi, Exchange 2000 can be installed on a windows 2000 standard server without any problems. The RAM requirement depends on number of users etc. Why would you want to install exchange 2000 now? It is no longer a supported product. Firstly, thanks for replying. Extended support is still available for Exchange 2000 until January 2011. Furthermore, it costs 3 times less to buy compared to Exchange 2003 and 2007. If I installed Exchange 2000 with 5 CAls on a machine running Windows 2000 standard server with 2 GB of memory, would I experience any major problems while supporting up to five client users?
