mails stays in outbox   

I have a windows 2000 sp4 server/exchange 2000 up to date
Gfi mailessentials spam filter installed.
When I send mail often the mail stays up to 20 seconds in the outbox.
Internal and external mail.

Please help.

Actually stays or just sits there for a while and then is sent?
