Re: Thousands of messages in Bad Mail folder
Performed all the tasks listed in the links and downloaded the Vamsoft
software.....still the same status...I have noticed that it is not the NDR's
that are clogging up the SMTP and Bad mail folder, it is e-mails coming into
thousands of versions of our e-mail naming convention (i.e:
jjklsk@DOMAIN.COM, jjkk333@DOMAIN.COM, LLKI8876E@DOMAIN.COM) and since these
e-mails have no inbox associated with them, they are going straight to the
bad mail folder. Any way to accept only e-mail's that are valid, or is
there a way to filter out and delete requestes for bad e-mail addresses?
Thanks for you help!

Re: Thousands of messages in Bad Mail folder
Hi,
Antispam software should stop most of these messages. In exchange 2003 it
is possible to configure the server only to accept messages to known users
but as far as I remember this can't be done in ex2000.

Re: Thousands of messages in Bad Mail folder
Thanks for the note Leif...I have been researching the spam filtering
software and have tested my relay by 3rd party means (it is closed off!) ao
I have been concentrating on the SPAM option now.....One question that still
looms....if I go get spam software, will it really reduce the amount of
messages going into the "Bad Mail" folder? I have turned off my NDR
responses for now, and once I tightened up my relay, I have reduced the
number of messages from 1,000+ per minute to about 25+ per minute.
Thx,
Jason

Re: Thousands of messages in Bad Mail folder
Hi,
Many antispam sofware solutions also use lookups in open relay databases. If
a mail is coming from an open relay the antispam software will reject the
mail before it enters your server and thus it won't hit your badmail folder.

Re: Thousands of messages in Bad Mail folder
Thanks for the info...I am demo'ing spam software now....looks like I will
end up having to invest a few $$, but it will pay for itself I believe!
