Archiving outgoing mail
When I set up Exchange 2000 a few years ago, one requirement was to archive a
copy of all outgoing mail into a common mailbox. I implemented that simply
using Outlook rules to copy all sent items into a dummy user mailbox.

Now I have two problems.
1. Some users are turning off the rule, so their messages do not get
recorded.
2. A small but increasing percentage of the copies have the date in the
common mailbox recorded as "none", but in the original mailbox have a valid
date. I suspect that this is because of a timing problem. The Information
Store is considerably larger than it used to be and I suspect that at the
time the rule is run, the message has been dispatched to Exchange, but a sent
date has not yet been returned.

Both problems indicate my original solution was not ideal (which I did
suspect) and that this ought to be done at Exchange level rather than client
level, but I can't find any documentation suggesting how to do this for SMTP
outgoing mail.

Any ideas ?

Regards

Re: Archiving outgoing mail
Thanks for this Steve, but I need outgoing only and I am running Exchange
2000, not 2003.

I think I need archive sink, but can't trace much about it.

Regards

Re: Archiving outgoing mail
By the way, the option is also available for Exchange 2000 too.
Does "Outgoing email" only refer to those sending out of office?
