Additional Storage Group
We have everyone in the company in one storage group. However it is
regularly getting too large despite trying to keep mailbox sizes down. Can I
add another storage group (with as little downtime as possible) and if so,
will that relieve the size of our present database?

Thanks

Re: Additional Storage Group
Hi,

I assume that you mean add an additional mailbox store?

This is possible if you are using the enterprise edition of Exchange 200x.
You create the store and move some mailboxes to this new store. There should
be no downtime involved except for the mailboxes that you move - they will
be unavailable during the move.

Re: Additional Storage Group
If you have Exchange 2000 Enterprise, create a new mailbox store in the
Storage Group.
If you have Exchange 2003 Enterprise, create a new Storage Group in the
Administrative Group and create a Store within that.

If you have Standard, upgrade to Enterprise :-)

No downtime.

Then select the users that are not around and you can move them to the new
store using AD. Those mailboxes will move over 4 at a time.

The store won't get smaller though until you do an offline defrag.

Re: Additional Storage Group
What version of exchange are you running?
