Public Folder disappering email
Quick setup of email:
I have two servers that handle all incoming and outgoing email for
filtering in a DMZ. I have an active/passive cluster on the backend running
Windows 2000 Advanced server and Exchange Advanced.

I have a situation where I have an application that runs via a website.

When a user signs up for this service, a confirmation email is sent to them.
The problem arises if the email address the user provided is not a valid
one. ex: jjjjjjjj@hotmail.com If the user types an invalid domain, I
receive the email back saying that the delivery failed. If the user provides
a bad address such as the one above I get a message back stating RCPT
response: '501 #5.1.1 bad address, within my filter software. When I track
the message through exchange, it shows that the message is delivered back to
the email address that is specified, but I never see this email.

The email that is sent is not from a user id, but a public folder that is
mail enabled. The website just has this as the reutrn address when it
generates the email. The permissions are set up so that anonymous can create
emails on the folder. The public folder does receive the notifications of a
bad domain, but not a bad address.

Where could these emails be disappearing to? There are no rules set up on
the folder to drop any emails.

IIRC, PF's don't accept NDR messages.
