Sudden Unable to open Default Folders
Greetings,

I have recently started having sporadic Exchange 2003 users having issues
when opening Outlook 2003 to access their mailbox. They get a message
similar to:

"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The Microsoft Exchange Server
computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft
Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance."

This problem follows this user from PC to PC regardless of recreating mail
profiles, etc. In fact, signing on with full admin rights on the mailbox
still yields the problem. This is only 1 user on the affected email server.
The user is still able to use OWA to access their email. My only fix thus
far is to move the mailbox to another Exchange 2003 server which solves the
problem for the user, but moving the mailbox back to the original server does
NOT resolve the issue.

I need some help and am really not sure where to look.

Thanks for any and all help.

Sounds like you're having networking issues connecting to that server or
there is a problem with the server itself. I'd start by examining the
Event Viewer on the affected server and look for issues that need to be
resolved.

Networking issues could range from DNS/Name Resolution issues to actual
infrastructure problems.

Re: Sudden Unable to open Default Folders
JonD,

Have you had any luck with this issue. I'm currently experiencing something
similar. It only affects one user account accessing a particular mailbox.
Other accounts can access this mailbox just fine, but this one account gets
the error you're referring to in your original post.

As you noted, I moved the mailbox to a different store on the same Exchange
server and this resolved the problem for about 30 minutes.

Re: Sudden Unable to open Default Folders
We have exactly the same problem and we are puzzeld. If we use Outlook 2000
everything works fine ! But with Outlook 2003 we cannot connect and get the
same error message.

Were you able to solve it ???

Any suggestions/comments are very much appriciated, as we are stuck now !

Re: Sudden Unable to open Default Folders
Try this fix !!

start > run > REGEDIT

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\
Lsa\[Kerberos]

create new folder called Parameters
create new dword called MaxTokenSize
value 35535 decimal (should appear as 0000ffff)

Reboot the pc try opening outlook.

OS: WINDOWS XP PRO
MS OFFICE 2003 PRO (Outook 2003)

Note: Need to be administrator to do this in windows xp pro.

Re: Sudden Unable to open Default Folders
Hello,

We had the same problem. We fixed it by recreating the local and
roaming user's profile. This worked after completing the following:

1. Had user log into her peer's workstation and create a new profile -
same error.
2. User can access OWA just fine.
3. Move mailbox to new server - same error.
4. Removed Mailbox Rights and readded them.
5. Created pst, disconnected mailbox, created new mailbox on different
server, reimporting data, new profile - same error.
6. Added test mailbox and assigned her permissions (full control on
mailbox rights and read only on security tab) - same error.
7. Verified RCP_Binding Order.

Thanks,
Exchange2003
