Issue with relaying
I have a workstation that is part of my network that is running software to
generate administrative alerts. One of the alerts is in email form and it ran
for some time however recently it just stopped running.
To setup the alert email I give it my virtual SMTP server name/ port who the
email goes to (they are a mail account on the email server) but do spoof a
sender name.

I have checked that I am allowing authenticated workstations to relay. I
send a test email from this software and nothing. No NDR, no email.
Can someone let me know where I can look on Exchange 2003 Ent to see if this
email is entering or at least attempting to get itself delivered?
I am suspecting that possibly the email server is never getting it but want
to make sure that I am looking everywhere to verify this.

Re: Issue with relaying
Hi,

You can enable SMTP logging on the SMTP virtual server and then try to send
a test mail. You should then be able to see something in the SMTP log file.

RE: Issue with relaying
Hi Irene,

I also suggest you use telnet utility to test the SMTP virtual server. In
the "Mail from" field, type a email address that does not belong to this
domain.

153119 XFOR: Telnet to Port 25 to Test SMTP Communication
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=153119

About how to collect SMTP log:

XCON: General Troubleshooting for Exchange 2000 Transport Issues (See
<Protocol Logging>)
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=257265

We need to collect more information to isolate the problem. Based on my
experience, it is most likely caused by the relay settings. Secondly,
please check the whether the recipient's address is valid.

Hope the info helps.
