ERROR: Destination server does not exist.
I recently installed a second Exchange 2000 server (in the same
organization) and manually added an MX record for it in our internal DNS
server. Trouble is, my old and new server can't exchange messages. The old
server is still able to send and receive mail everywhere else, but the new
server cannot send or receive any mail. Both servers have a new SMTP queue,
which is filling up with messages destined for the other server. The queue
is set to Retry, and even forcing it does not seem to do anything. The same
is true for the queue on the other server. If I right-click on the queue and
select Properties, the status is Retry, Remote Delivery, then on the line
just above the OK button, it says "Destination server does not exist."

Has anyone encountered this before? I have not been able to find any answers
on Google. This newsgroup is my last hope.

RE: ERROR: Destination server does not exist.
Hello,

Thank you for posting.

In order to do further research, please let me know some information about
the two Exchange servers:
1.	Did the new Exchange server work as a front end server?
2.	Were the two servers in same administrative group? Same routing group?
If they were working in different AGs or RGs, did you configure any
connectors between them?
3.	Can you see the other server in ESM on every server?

Now I suggest you perform the following operations to narrow down/fix the
issue:
1.	On every server, ping the IP address, FQDN and NetBIOS name of the other
server.
2.	Please locate to ESM->server name->protocols->SMTP->Default SMTP Virtual
Server->Queues, capture a screenshot for each server. Please send the
screenshots to me at v-jochen@microsoft.com.
3.	Collect an ExBPA report and an MPS report on each server and send them
to me.

Collect MPS report
===================================
1. Access the following URL:
-88b7-f9c79b7306c0&displaylang=en>
2. Download MPSRPT_Exchange.EXE and execute the exe file.
3. Please send the resulting file (CAB file) to me at
v-jochen@microsoft.com.

Collect ExBPA report
===================================
1. To download ExBPA, visit the web link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=dbab201f-4bee-4943-
ac22-e2ddbd258df3&displaylang=en
2. When you start this tool it first tries to connect to the Internet to
check for updates. After the check, you can choose "select options for a
new scan" to initialize the process, then follow the steps to have a Heath
Check. At last, after completing the scanning, click "Export report" to
save the report as XML file, then send the file to me for further research:
v-jochen@microsoft.com.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know.

Sincerely,
John Chen, MCSE, MCSA, MCDBA, MCSD
