I have 2 Exchange 2000 server and 1 Exchange 5.5 on same site. The mail flows fine between Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 but internally mail between Exchange 2000 doesn't flow. Since the Exchange 2000 uses SMTP and we have a firewall that blocks port 25. I have to use the company smtp gateway. But if I modify the smtp virual server with the gateway it still doesn't transfer email internally. But the mail flows if I send eamil with username@mail.com. What do I need to do to transfer email between Exchange 2000 server via smtp directly. Thanks...
Hi, You will need to open for port 25 between the servers. If you configure a smart-host on the SMTP virtuel server on both Exchange servers these would send all e-mails destined for users on the other server to the SMTP server but this server would probably send all mails back to one of these servers because it doesn't know on which server a given mailbox is located so in effect no mailflow. The firewall will not open port 25 between the servers. They want to transfer smtp via there smtp server. If i point my smtp virtaul server to there the mail doesn't get resolved. Is it possible to switch to RPC and transfer mail via MTA. Since Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 communicates fine. Can I change the default mail flow protocol from smtp to RPC in Exchange 2000. This is the only option I have. The company will not open port 25. When the mail goes from SMTP does it use the format username@domain.com or it uses x.400 to send mail locally. I don't understant if I forward the smpt virual to the company smtp why doesn't it resolve the address. Thanks...
