OWA will not run
I have introduced a frontend server in my exchange site. It sits in what we
call an internet segment just outide our internal network but behind a
firewall.
It is running exch 2003 on windows 2003 server.

Originally our exchange server was in this segment and ran OWA. I have moved
this server into the internal network then made this 2nd server the frontend.

I have checked everything I know to determine what might be causing this
including all the properties on the default website and didn't really find
any MS documentation the explained how to move OWA in this type of situation.

I am getting an event id 1000 with source: exproc. Also, in the interest of
making sure that all the properties were set to the same thing I backed up
the def website then restored it to the new one (running iis 6.0 on both). I
realized that it created some issues with asp.net stuff so I removed then
added it back in add/remove windows components so that all the asp.net stuff
pointed to the correct locations.
Any information will be welcome.

RE: OWA will not run
Hi Irene,

Thank you for posting here.

First, it is not recommmended to deploy Exchange 2003/2000 Front End server
in the DMZ. We suggest you put the FE server in the lan, and publish OWA
via application firewall in DMZ, such as ISA.

Exchange 2000/2003 is highly intergrated with Active Directory, and it need
to communicate with DC/GC frequently. If you put the Exchange 2003 server
into the DMZ, on the firewall to the LAN you should have to open all ports
described in the following article to make the Exchange server properly
working:

278339 XGEN: TCP/UDP Ports Used By Exchange 2000 Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=278339

280132 XCCC: Exchange 2000 Windows 2000 Connectivity Through Firewalls
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=280132

For mroe information, about FE/BE structure, see the following white paper:
"Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange 2000 Server Front-End and Back-End
Topology"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E64666FC-42B7-48A1-
AB85-3C8327D77B70&displaylang=en

In addition, collect the application log for further investigation
(v-asun@microsoft.com.)

Hope this helps. If there is anything unclear, feel free to post back.

Thanks & Regards
Alan Sun
