Backup Solution for Exchange 2003 Cluster
Hello,

We just implemented a two node active/passive Exchange 2003 Cluster. Soon,
we'll be moving mailboxes off of our 5.5 server. We have Veritas Backup
Exec version 10 in house. Has anyone set up a backup solution with BackUp
Exec 10 on a cluster? What about in conjunction with Windows Volume Shadow
Services (VSS).

I'm looking for recommendations on a backup design. The cluster is going to
a backend EMC Claarion SAN.

Thanks

Re: Backup Solution for Exchange 2003 Cluster
I use Tivoli to backup our clustered Exchange servers, that also reside on
an EMC SAN...with Tivoli, the only issue is installing the software and the
scheduling agent so that you can create a "resource" for the
scheduler...that way, if the cluster should fail over, your backups will
still fire off...I'm sure Veritas has instructions for the same type of set
up...the main thing with Exchange 2003 backups it to backup the entire
storage group so that your committed transaction log files will be purged
properly...I don't us the VSS, though...have heard that no one has quite
perfected that option for Exchange backups...

Re: Backup Solution for Exchange 2003 Cluster
Both work just fine. Veritas has some good reading on there website on the
topics.

Cheers,

Rod
