Messages Submitted to Categorizer! Ends!!!
exchange frontend - exchange backend, exchange 2003, sp2, all updates etc.

Many users are saying that they are not recieving email messages, after
looking at message tracking below is an example from one of the logs...

smtp - message submitted to advance queuing
smtp - started message submission to advanced queue
smtp - message submitted to categorizer

and then it ends...... where did the message go???? the only spam filtering
that is enabled on the machine is IMF.

Also looking into the smtp logs i found a message that a user did not
recieve either..

Re: Messages Submitted to Categorizer! Ends!!!
Hi Gabe,

Assuming that these are messages between users on the same server your first
best bet is Exchange Aware AV. I would recommend updating your AV to the
latest version available from your vendor. You may also want to try
uninstalling AV and rebooting the machine (sometimes is the only sure fire
way to make sure it is out of the picture).

If that does not correct your issue then you will need to increase
diagnostic logging on Transport to Maximum (on the properties of the server
object) for everything but SMTP protocol (SMTP protocol is just too chatty
and won't show you anything for this issue). Send some messages thru the
system that reproduce the issue and look for warning and errors in the
application log. This should allow you with KB to track down your issue.

If it does not then I would recommend that you open a case with Microsoft
support as this can take a higher level of logging in order to determine
what is happening.

Hope this helps,

Re: Messages Submitted to Categorizer! Ends!!!
I'd also suggest you look at your AD environment. Any communication, or
otherwise, problems with your GC servers? Any errors in the event logs? Run
DCDiag against your DC/GCs

Generally, when you see ""submitted to categorizer" as the last line
in message tracking, that means its probably in a SMTP queue, visible
then in ESM hopefully.

I would follow Mathew's advice and see what you find.

Re: Messages Submitted to Categorizer! Ends!!!
On that note, If your FE is in the DMZ, you'll want to either open ICMP to
the internal network or disable the ldap ping protocol.

I'd agree with that, certainly in our environment this normally means
that Mailsweeper for Exchange has a problem which isn't far off what
you've said above.
