I have tried diligently to get a rule to forward or redirect to an account external from my Exchange 2003 system (also could never get it to work on 2000). The redirect and forward rules just don't seem to work. I am running the latest patch levels on both client and server. I've seen lots of documentation on the web that indicates this works, but can't seem to get it to. Is there an Exchange setting I need to turn on to be able to redirect to an external account? Thanks in advance!

I believe you'd have to open up 'autoforward to the internet' in ESM - this is disabled by default. If you want all mail redirected to another address, though, why not create an AD contact and set up the mailbox to forward a copy to the contact? This is much more efficient and doesn't require that you open up autoforward (or autoreply).
I agree it is more efficient, however, I want my users to be able to manage their forward with administrator interaction. That is exactly what I've been looking for! I set the setting under ESM, Global Settings, Internet Message Format and it seems to be working! :)
