Peculliar problem with Outlook and Exchange....
Put on your thinking caps folks...... Have I got one for you!!!

Our ASP installed MS patches for both Window 2000 Server and MS Exchange
2000.
Since then we have been experiencing some unusual behavior from Outlook in
our NY office. Our office has 250 users,

We have an IMAM consisting of 3 T1's connecting our office with the ASP's
facilities.

I occasionally will receive the following message when I try to open a
message in Outlook ( it just occurred)
See the attachment.

When I click through it and try to open the message again, it opens. It
will also populate the Inbox with new mail. This occurs when I leave Outlook
for an extended period of time either for a meeting, or working on other
projects with Outlook in the background.

I haven't touched outlook for about 3-5 minutes while typing this post.
During that time no messages arrived in outlook. I clicked on an existing
email, and after about 4-6 seconds of hourglass outlook popped in with new
mail. 3 new emails in fact. No message this time. Other users in this
office get this message, or a variant of it. with the same results. click
through, try again, OK.

When they backed out the patches, the problem went away.

I do believe that the patches may have changed something in the RPC protocol
that made it less tolerant of periods of inactivity.
