can anyone describe the process in which names would be "checked" in a mail message that was created in outlook 2003 in cache mode. I've done some poking around and it appears there is an option to foce a check name to consult the GAL when we're connected. I'm guessing the order is NK2 file, Cached OAB followed by the GAL check if the registry key is present. two questions follow this one: (1) if you select a name from the AutoComplete suggestion, is that the last step in the process? this has been cropping up a lot in our organization where a user has their exchange account manipulated in some way and suddenly a slew of 5.1.1 NDRs result. I've been suggesting using the Delete key to remove the erroneous entries so far. (2) Is there logic built in where if a name is found in the NK2 file but the account has been manipulated (i.e. exchange attributes removed and added back to an account) an entry that will fail is checked against the OAB or the GAL? It would seem in my own experience that this is not the case and i was wondering if anyone knows of a means of changing this. thanks, WM

It's my understanding that object in the nk2 file are not re-resolved against the GAL. That entry is simply inserted into the message and used. In general removing and readding Exchange attributes is something to try and avoid, replies to old mail from those users will likely break as well. -- Chris Scharff Messaging Services Architect MessageOne Don't find fault, find a remedy. - Henry Ford
