Managed By option doesn't let uses manage distribution list
I'm stuck on trying to allow a user the ability to manage a simple
distribution list. I found info onlne that said all I need to do is, under
Active Directory, set the user under the Managed By option for the
distribution list.

While my name shows under the address book distribution list group - Managed
By section, I get an error message denying the changes, saying "you do not
have permissions...."

Digging more, I found Microsoft KB 281489 that says this doesn't work for
Exchange 2000. The work around below seems clear, but isn't working either.

I still get the same error when I try to manage the list from Outlook 2003
or Outlook 2000

I'm finding a bit online about AutoDL but the big thing is that the
documentation is weak and the install a bit complex.

Is there a better way to allow users just the ability to manage the
distribution group without giving them full controll?

Thanks - Dale

To enable the user to modify only the membership of a particular group,
grant the appropriate permissions to that specific group:1. Right-click the
group, and then click Properties.
      2. Click the Security tab, and then click Advanced.
      3. Click the user or group.
      4. Click the Properties tab.
      5. In the Apply onto list, click Group objects.
      6. In the Permissions box, click Allow Read Members, and then click
Allow Write Members.
      7. Find the user you just added, and then select Write Permissions
(which will give it add/remove self permissions).
