2003 to 2007 Migration
I am currently Running a 2003 Native Domain and Exchange Environemt. I have
a single back-end server! In reading the deployment guide for E2K7 and all
these roles, I am left to belive and hope that I will only need to depoly 2
servers; Server 1 will be an Edge Server and Server 2 will be the Hub, CAS
and Mailbox Server. Is this correct?

Also, will I be able to have both the Single E2K3 server co-exist with the 2
E2K7 Servers? If so, how? Will the new Edge Server be able to route mail
to the E2K# and E2K7 servers?

Thanks - Sean

Re: 2003 to 2007 Migration
You don't absolutely have to deploy an Edge server. The content filters can
be installed on 1 server. Whether to deploy an Edge server will depend on
the company size, budget, etc.

When you install the E2K7 it should create a connector to your Exchange 2003
server, so I have read. I have been running in a test environment with 1
E2K7 server.

Re: 2003 to 2007 Migration
So the Edge server is optional and I presume it can be implimented after the
fact.

So with the E2K3 server in place, I need to run the
/prepareLegacyExchangePermissions and /PrepareAD switches. Once I do this
and I have all my pre-req's installed, I can install the HUB, CAS and
Mailbox roles on my single E2K7 server.

At this point all email will still flow into the existing E2K3 server but
E2K7 will establish a connector to recieve email for the mailboxes I
moved....?

Re: 2003 to 2007 Migration
I can't absolutely answer that because I have only worked in my test area
with a single server; I am relaying what I have read and will test in the
future before upgrading our existing exchange 2003 server.

Re: 2003 to 2007 Migration
Hi,

The 2007 installation program will create a routing group connector which
connects 2003 and 2007 servers. This will ensure that mails will flow
between 2003 mailboxes and 2007 mailboxes.
