Users check Number of items
I know users can go into their mailbox properties in Outlook and check the
size of their different folders but is their any way for them to see their
total number of items as this is the main issue with user mailboxes not size
per se.

They can see the # of items in a folder if they select it & have the status
bar visible.
More than 5000 items in any folder is asking for trouble.
