Smart host question...
We recently signed up with a service called Spam Soap to filter incoming /
outgoing email.

However, completely by mistake, I found out that our outgoing email is
indeed NOT being forwarded to Spam Soap for filtering beofer being forwarded
to the final destination - but is instead being sent out directly by our
local ISP. To see this I happened to be viewing a header of an email in my
personal yahoo account. The email came from my office Exchange server and
the originating IP inn teh header indicated the IP address assigned to us by
the ISP NOT the spam soap smart host IP - which is what I figured it should
have been.

Now, I have configured the smart host in the SMTP virtual
server ->properties->delivery0>advanced area and enterd the name of the spam
soap smart host there. Is this the only place that it needs to be
configured?? I also tried adding the IP address that the smart host dns name
resolves to in the properties of the actual SMTP connector 'General tab'. I
clicked on the 'forward through smart host ' optionm and entered
'[208.65.145.xx] in there. Then I stopped and started both the routing and
the SMTP services. When everything came back up - NO email was being
delivered at all - it was all being held in the queues in a 'retry' state.
As soon as I changed the SMTP connector settings back to using DNS to route
each address as opposed to the Smart Host ip address, everything worked
again!!

Please help!! In the Spam Soap documentation it says specifically to set
the Smart host setting on the SMTP Virtual server which I did and it ain't
workin'!!!

What do I need to do to get this running correctly??

Thanks, Brad

Re: Smart host question...
I just setup a client using Spam Soap for Smarthost and here is what there
tech support engineer stated for this to work properly, you will need to
DELETE your SMTP connector. I have verifed this and it does work correctly
once I deleted the SMTP connector. This was for SBS 2003 R2.

FYI: The smarthost name in the Advanced Tab on your SMTP VS should the the
format, yourdomain.com.outbound15.mxlogic.net

Re: Smart host question...
Hmmm, certainly did not see this in any documentation. It sounds rather
scary to remove the connector!!!

I'll give it a shot though...

Thanks!
