Migration Issues
Hi Everyone.

I am wondering if anyone can give me some assistance.

We are in the process of transferring our email service to a co-hosted
service.

We have set up the following on our exchange server:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321721/en-us
Which makes our internal exchange server forward all mail for unknown
mailboxes to a different server.

However, once I set up and address on the co-hosted server, when we
send a mail to a user who is currently on our exchange server, the
co-hosted server just gives a reply to say that the user does not
exist. I can see the reason for this, it is because that server is not
trying to either forward mail back to our server, or is not
automatically trying to send the email via the internet (in which case
it would come back in via our exchange server).

To get around this problem, I have tried setting the outgoing mailbox
on the user who is on the co-hosted server, to use our internal server
for sending mail. This does not work. It does not seem to get to the
user, is this because the user does not have an account on the
internal server?

Does anyone know what I need to change in order to make sure either
the co-hosted exchange server sends mail to our server or our outgoing
mail server allows an unknown user to send mail through it (perhaps if
it is on the same subnet?)

The co-hosted server is external to our organisation and is not a
member of our domain. Both servers are to host the same Domain name
while we are migrating.

Any help very much appreciated.
Thanks
Freddy
