how to plan for downed exchange server - different location?
Hi all

I got an exchange server, which hosts email accounts of course

we do backups via EVAULT over the internet

lets say my building with the main exchange server catches on fire and gets
destroyed, but I set up an exchange server all ready to go at a completely
different location (before the other building crashes and burns) for such a
disaster - what is the quickest setup for getting the other exchange server
running?

Should the 2 sites be linked by PTP - should the 2 exchange servers be in
the same organization/site, how do I tell the disaster exchange server it is
reponsible for mail from all mailboxes now? can i restore Data to the
disaster recovery exchange server easily even though its backups off the
other exchange server?

thanks for any inputs or links or faqs

thanks

Re: how to plan for downed exchange server - different location?
The prefered method is to recover Exchange via the /disasterrecovery
switch during installation. There are other methods of restoring a
database to a different Exchange server and moving mailboxes, but it is
not as clean. Google for the Exchange Disaster Recovery Guide and you
can read about all the options.

If you are interested in a solution that provides realtime data
protection and recovery of Exchange in your DR site in under 5 minutes,
you should check out LifeKeeper for Exchange.
