Journaling of external contacts
Hi all--
I am looking for a way with Win2003/Exchange/Windows Sharepoint to
'AutoJournal' communications with external contacts. By external contacts,
I am thinking mail-enabled external contacts in AD, public folder contacts,
and/or Windows SharePoint contacts. Ultimately, I would like to be able to
go to the Activities tab of any external contact and see the e-mails, appt.
requests, etc. that relate to that particular contact. I would like for any
authorized user within the organization to be able to look at this list of
past activities.
This is simple enough when using Journaling in conjunction with Contacts
that are contained within an individual user mailbox. Performing this task
with a company-wide external contact seems to be a different story.
When I say Journaling, I am referring to the activity-tracking type of
journaling as opposed to the "archive-journaling" that, for example, sends a
copy of each outbound e-mail to a common mailbox.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm pulling my hair out!

Thanks

p.s. I realize that a CRM package would accomplish this task. Is there a
way short of CRM?

Re: Journaling of external contacts
You asked this two days ago and were asked to have a look at a
package. I know you read the email because we mentioned a CRM package
that I knew you wouldn't go for because it's way overkill for one
little task. Did you look at the other pssoble solution and discount
it?

Re: Journaling of external contacts
Hi Mark--

Sorry for the re-post. I didn't think that I had done a very good job of
explaining the situation in the original post. I did take a look at the
Selective Journaling product. I don't see that it accomplishes my
objective.

Thanks,

Bryce

Re: Journaling of external contacts
I reviewed it as well since there are updates to various products
coming out all the time. You can't keep up with everything all the
time.

The only way I can think of without running some auditing on (say)
your expensive anti spam s/w is to send mail to a DG where the members
of the DG are the external contact and a ghost mailbox. Obviously you
need to clean out that ghost mailbox often (if you're on E2Kn Standard
Edition)

Re: Journaling of external contacts
Thanks Mark. After a pretty thorough investigation, it looks like my client
is indeed leaning toward a CRM package.
