Messages Stacking in SMTP Queue
My org has five E2K3 SP2 servers in a single routing group. The
problem server is an active/passive cluster.

All messages from the problem server, to the other four servers, stack
up in outgoing queues. Clicking on each of the queues indicates "the
connection was dropped by the remote host." The queued messages
eventually expire with 4.4.7 NDRs. Messages from the other servers to
the problem server are successful.

If I move the exchange resources to the passive node, the queued
messages get delivered successfully. If I move the exchange resources
back to the problem server, the problem continues.

Any ideas?

Re: Messages Stacking in SMTP Queue
An update: Attempting to verify node 1 was the problem, I left the all
the cluster resources on node 2 (normally passive) for several days .
Now the same problem is occurring on node 2:
- when node 2 is active, outgoing messages are held in queue
- when resources are moved to node 1, mail flow is normal
- when resources are returned to node 2, the problem continues

I Turned on SMTP logging. Now I see event ID 4006 - Message delivery
to the host '<Target server IP address>' failed while delivering to the
remote domain '<Target server FQDN>' for the following reason: The
connection was dropped by the remote host.
