Exchange Mailboxes
I have an Exchange 2003 and Active Directory domain set up. I am hosting a
few web sites, and I don't know how to utilize exchange to set up email
accounts for those web sites. To make sure I'm explaining this right....

DNS looks like this:
_msdcs.DOMAIN.local
mycompany.com
DOMAIN.local
othercompanywebsite.com

mycompany of course is integrated with AD and exchange and all my users can
get email at user@mycompany.com.

How do i set up email for user@othercompanywebsite.com?
Do these users need to be in AD?
Really all i want is for info@othercompanywebsite.com to be redirected to
user@hotmail.com without having to add any users to my company's active
directory.

I hope I've explained this well enough.

Re: Exchange Mailboxes
Hi,

Create mail enabled contacts with the external email addresses.

Re: Exchange Mailboxes
I don't understand. I created a contact for user@othercompany.com, but
where do emails sent to this address go? How does the user access them? Do
I need to put a mail exchanger in DNS?

Re: Exchange Mailboxes
Hi,

When you create a mail enabled contact emails sent to this contact will be
forwarded to the SMTP address you enter during creating.

Re: Exchange Mailboxes
I think he wishes to host the mail for a client domain.

If this is indeed the case, you need to add the domain in question to your
recipient update service within your exchange org.

Unless you create an entry within your org that allows relay of a domain
that is not contained within the rus, your system will (properly) refuse to
handle any mail for that domain, unless it originates from a user within
your org.

If I'm correct in what you are asking, you need to create a new recipient
update service entry, and filter it so that it only applies to the users who
need to use this domain.

Obviously, the easiest way to achieve this is to create an OU within your
domain that contains the users in question, then apply the RUS entry only to
them.

If exchange is also your primary receptor of mail, you will need to update
the MX records of said domain to point at your exchange server.
