Exchange 2000 sp3
i have an exchage 2000 server with sp3 and windows 2000 server with sp4. I
am can get emails from anyone and send them out with no problem except
hotmail and a few other domains. I can receive mail from hotmail only when
its not a reply from a previous email i send.. So i can send an email to my
hotmail account but when i reply from hotmail, i never get it but i can send
new email from hotmail to my server and they get there with no problem, its
only the reply messages they dont get through. Sometimes i do get an error
of delivery status notification failure (Delivery to the following recipients
failed.).... Any hint on why this would be happening.......

RE: Exchange 2000 sp3
probably not the correct email address is set as primary in active directory
users and computers.
Get the properties from a user and look at the tab "email addresses".
The bold one is the one set as primary and any outgoing mail will have that
address. To change it, select an other and hit the "set as primary" button.
you can change it for all users in the recipient policy in exchange system
manager.

RE: Exchange 2000 sp3
My primary email is set to the one im trying to send to.. Here is how its
setup. I own 2 domains, say domain1 and domain2. My server is setup for
domain1 and my exchange has a receipt policy setup for domain2 as its primary
email. If i go into users and computers i see my primary email is set to
domain2, which is correct. Like i said before, i can send email from my
exchange to homail and receive new emails from hotmail but not any replys
from hotmail. So if i send an email from exchange, when i reply from hotmail
i dont get it and eventually i get an error. But if i compose a new email
and send it to myself from hotmail, i get it with on problem. Thanks for the
reply and let me know if im missing something but this does not help since
this server accepts email for 2 domains and primary or not, i still get the
delay error and then an error stating my server cannot be reached.. any
other suggestions?? When i

Does a reply never work or only when you try to reply from hotmail?
Could you post the exact message you get back ?

RE: Exchange 2000 sp3
A reply works from most mail servers but not all, hotmail is one of them that
dont work. Gmail on the other hand works just fine. There are a few other
mail server that dont work with it but i dont know all of them. Its very
weird because some users can reply and others get this message. Here is the
exact message.

"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients failed."

Any advice??

Re: Exchange 2000 sp3
Mike,

Check with your ISP and verify your RDNS record. Hotmail, AOL and a few
others require a RDNS record or they won't allow mail to flow. I just went
through this exact thing... what a P.I.T.A.
