Problems sending e-mail to accounts not in AD domain
Hi,

Having a big problem at the moment which I hope someone can help with. We
are running SBS 2003 with AD and Exchange configured. We have an internal AD
domain 'CCM.local' and an Internet domain 'finance.uk.com' which is used for
E-mail accounts.

We are using the POP3 connector for e-mail accounts which get delivered to
local domain accounts. The problem is that in exchange we have configured the
FQDN in the SMTP connector which is required as 'finance.uk.com' and this
allows e-mails from users within the AD domain to be sent to each other. But
we also have e-mail accounts in our other office who use the same FQDN but
are not part of the AD domain. When trying to send e-mails to anyone in the
other office it comes back as a failed delivery as it says the recipent
address does not exist.

Now what I think is happening is that when sending any e-mails to addresses
with the FQDN 'finance.uk.com' it looks in AD for the domain account as it
thinks you are sending it local which then fails as an account in AD does not
exist.

I hope someone can help as this is a big problem for us at the moment as no
e-mails to users in the other office can be sent.

Thanks

Amish Lukka

Re: Problems sending e-mail to accounts not in AD domain
In the recipient policy, uncheck the "This Exchange Organization is
responsible for all mail delivery to this address" and then configure a SMTP
connector to send the unresolved mail to somewhere else.
