Hi all, I'm facing a serious (and quite urgent) problem here: - Exchange server 2000 running on a Windows 2000 server. This is NOT a DC. - The DC's in the organization are Win 2003 Servers except for one which is a Windows 2000 server. User account adminstration was performed on this server. - Now this last server has also been replaced by a Win 2003-R2 server. Problem: in the AD Users and computers, account properties, there are no more properties regarding the mailbox and Exchange properties of a user. It appears that these properties are added by doing an Exchange custom setup, installing the System Administration component only. However, the Exchange 2000 setup is not supported on the Windows 2003 servers. see MS KB 321648 So what now. Does this mean that I have to buy an Exchange 2003 server just to have those couple of properties added to the user account? Are there other ways? Or can I install the Exchange System Adminstration anyway (don't know if it will even want to install) Only way out I see is making the Exchange 2000 server a DC but that would be bad practice and a lot of overkill I guess. TIA -- Paul
Yes you are right I think there is no other way, you need to make this win2000 member server as a DC and then only can you do the exchange tasks from the AD users and computers. Try and check by installing all the service packs and the august roll up, that should help but I am not quite sure about that. Hi, Don't promote the exchange server to a dc, it is not supported to run dcpromo on an exchange server. There is an Active directory users and computers on the exchange server (in the exchange program folder) - couldn't you use this for user administration? You've made my day! NB: never noticed that shortcut before, I thought you only had this tool on a DC. It works, great. Thank you -- Paul
you could and maybe should install the tools on a workstation pc like XP "Paul D B" wrote in message news:44549fde$0$23539$ba620e4c@news.skynet.be... > Leif Pedersen [MVP] wrote: >> Hi, >> >> Don't promote the exchange server to a dc, it is not supported to run >> dcpromo on an exchange server. >> >> There is an Active directory users and computers on the exchange >> server (in the exchange program folder) - couldn't you use this for >> user administration? >> >> Leif > > Hi, > > YES!!!
